Kesya : A Fusion of Tradition, History, and Contemporary Design
The creative direction and photography for Kesya reflect the brand’s commitment to fusing tradition, history, and modern design. Founded by Divya Shekhawat and Shivangani Singh in 2015, Kesya is a jewellery studio rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. Inspired by the Rajasthani word for saffron, ‘kesariya,’ the studio re-imagines traditional arts and crafts through a collection of exquisitely crafted accessories for both men and women. My creative approach aimed to bring Kesya’s vision to life through imagery that is both timeless and contemporary.
Every design element within the project was curated to align with Kesya’s ethos. The props were chosen to complement the jewellery’s delicate craftsmanship without overwhelming it. Subtle touches of Rajasthan’s cultural richness were incorporated through objects like handcrafted textiles and earthy ceramics, echoing the brand’s heritage without being overtly traditional. This allowed the imagery to feel grounded yet modern, celebrating the elegance and history of Kesya’s work in a way that resonates with a contemporary audience.
The art direction focused on infusing a sense of playfulness and elegance into the visual narrative. The photography captured the essence of Kesya’s jewellery through intimate and detailed shots, focusing on the textures, materials, and handcrafted details that define the brand.
Each frame was carefully styled to incorporate minimal yet thoughtful props that interacted seamlessly with the jewellery, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship of each piece while allowing space for the eye to wander. Neutral tones were selected for their warmth and subtlety, creating a backdrop that adds softness and warmth to the brand’s aesthetic. This minimalist palette ensured that Kesya's designs remained the focal point, while still providing a refined, tactile atmosphere.
By juxtaposing the rich cultural influences behind the jewellery with modern styling, the images evoke both the history of Rajasthani artistry and a contemporary, accessible vibe. A light, natural palette—soft creams, beiges, and earthy tones—was used to create a serene environment, emphasizing the timelessness and sophistication of each accessory.
This project beautifully blends heritage and contemporary aesthetics, encapsulating Kesya’s unique jewellery in a visual language that speaks of history, craftsmanship, and elegance.
The balance between warmth and minimalism played a key role in shaping Kesya’s visual identity. The softness of the tones, combined with the understated playfulness in the styling, created a refined and inviting mood, perfectly in line with the brand’s narrative of blending history with innovation. Each photograph works to elevate the overall brand experience, aligning with the meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful design behind Kesya’s jewellery.
The resulting visuals are a tribute to both the past and the present—honoring Kesya’s mission to reinvigorate interest in traditional Rajasthani arts while showcasing a fresh, modern sensibility.
